Wednesday June 8

Today we visited the school and worked on building a dining hall.  The older students are intimidated by us, but the younger students come and hug us.  They are all really friendly and love to play soccer with us.  In partners we got to spend a period in their class with them and one other student to get perspective.  The teachers are very nice and the students all wrote cursive and were very interested in our handwriting.  We also met our homestay families.  They are so nice! Half of the group worked on a World Leadership School activity while the other have learned to weave baskets from a master weaver.  Tomorrow we will switch so that everyone participates in all the activities.

Today we had an exciting day filled with many different new experiences for everyone.  It helped us bond our group more as a whole. We started bright and early excited to be working at the school beginning our service projects. The group got to the school and began immediately working hard. Our purpose today with our community service project was to clean up the job site of where the dining hall will be.  After 2 hours of straight hard work we got the chance to bond with many of the students of the school through a game of soccer. We took a bit of a break and then proceeded with experiencing more customs and cultural experiences. For example we got the amazing chance to meet with a Natural Healer for the evening at a blessing ceremony. This ritual opened many of our eyes and showed us how to be positive and take a moment to realize how lucky we are. We proceeded after that by having dinner at a local restaurant and then having one last group learning session/ANCHORing before turning in for the night.

Peru Trip 6-6

Today, after having a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and fruit, we went to the Templo del Sol. It's an Inca ruin in Ollantaytambo.  Our tour guide taught us about how the Incan empire was formed and how they were able to build these amazingly precise walls.  After our tour in el Tempo del Sol, we had lunch at a buffet restaurant called Muña. Their food, along with their desserts, were amazing! In the afternoon, we went to a weaving village called Chinchero to learn about their techniques.  We all learned to weave bracelets and we got to keep them.  We took the bus back to Ollantaytambo and ate dinner at a restaurant called Panaka.  It was an amazing day of adventure and tourism!!

We HAVE Arrived in Ollantaytambo

Hi Everyone,

WE made it!  Our travels could not have been better.  Our two flights yesterday we ontime and we stayed at a lovely hotel in Lima last night.  We got to be late and were up early for breakfast before heading back to the airport this morning.

After our flight to Cuzco we were greeted by Jorge, Johan and Lida from WLS at the airport.  We changed our money and headed off to Ollantaytambo.  The drive was gorgeous.  Adela greeted us at the hotel.  Kids are now showering and unpacking.

Students are in Cusco

Hello friends and family of the ACDS program in Peru. The group has arrived in Cusco and were greeted by their WLS instructors. We have arrived!  Everyone is settling in to their rooms for the night.  Tomorrow morning we will have breakfast here in Lima before heading back to the airport for our quick flight to Cusco. The group update the blog from Ollantaytambo!
